Benicia Bicycle Club

Benicia Bicycle Club Logo

Benicia Bicycle Club has been active since 1987. Our members have all levels of skill and fitness and believe group bicycling is a fun way to exercise, make new friends, and share the challenges of a great sport. We ride all types of bikes including road, mountain, recumbent, and e-bikes. We have a passion for cycling and enjoy the friendship, camaraderie, and good company that club membership provides.

Bicycle Helmet

All cyclists must wear a helmet! Our club insurer requires all cyclists to sign a Waiver of Liability each calendar year; Waiver Form Here. Prospective members who desire to join a club ride must also sign this waiver.

10 Tips for Riding Safely:

  1. Wear a helmet on every ride.

  2. Be predictable, ride in a straight line and don’t move unexpectedly. This is even more important when you are riding in a group with many cyclists behind you.

  3. Communicate your intentions to drivers and other cyclists. Use hand signals whenever you turn, slow or stop.

  4. Stay alert to changes in your surroundings at all times.  Look and scan further ahead to avoid having to make last minute movements.  Never ride with headphones or an earpiece.

  5. Give yourself some cushion.  Don’t hug the curb too closely. Maintain a comfortable distance from the pavement edge.

  6. Wear visible clothing having bright colors with reflective accents, especially in the early morning, early evening, or a cloudy day.  Use front and rear lights when riding in the dark.

  7. Watch out for opening car doors.

  8. Be ready to brake. Keep your hands on or near the brake levers so you can stop quickly.

  9. Check that your tires are sufficiently inflated, brakes are working, chain runs smoothly, nuts and bolts are properly torqued. Carry tools and supplies (including hydration & nutrition) that are appropriate for your ride.

  10. Carry a cell phone and ID.  The cell phone is necessary to call for help and your ID will help emergency responders know who you are and how to help you.
