Two small, but intrepid groups of A and B riders set out on the morning of March 29th for a borderline epic BBC Spring Moxie. The A’s (not to be confused with the baseball team), set out from Rockville via Gordon and Wooden Valleys to meet up with the B’s who set out from Fairfield via Pleasant Valley Road. The goal was to meet each other at Lake Solano for snacks and general merriment, joined by a peacock and the lone lady of the day, Elle, who delivered a veritable smorgasbord of cookies, chocolate, fruit, crackers, cheese and the all-important electrolytes!

“A” crew included Craig, Scott, Raphael, and Eric doing the metric century with Kalani, Marvin, and Alan riding from home (100 mile round-trip!). “B” crew included Steve, Duane, Candy and welcome newcomer, Ripple.

After a long, icy-cold, and oft-overcast winter, it was nice to start the day under clear cool conditions. The roar of Wooden Valley creek greeted the A’s as they climbed toward Muscovite along the lupine-lined roadway to the lichen-festooned oak trees near the top. Once over the top they enjoyed an invigorating long descent toward Markley Cove including a 25+ MPH paceline along the flats. Two climbs later, they flew down to observe the “Glory Hole” which was spilling a good 4-6 inches over the rim!

Meanwhile, the B’s were diggin’ the green scenery along Pleasant Valley Road (to the amusement of various livestock) as they made their way up to Lake Solano.

Timing couldn’t have been better as both groups arrived about the same time at Lake Solano Park for a welcome break. Spirits were especially high due to the sunny, perfect bike weather with a nice tailwind expected for the return down Pleasant Valley Road by both groups.

It was a GLORIOUS day, filled with many broad smiles – everyone delighting in the lush green countryside, lovely spring weather, and BBC friends!
